How Can severe Heartburn Be Treated?

I take citolapram and was taking ranatadine everyday, then I was told by my doctor to stop the ranitidine immediately as it can cause heart problems with the citolapram. What can I take for heartburn? I'm supposed to limit calcium because of kidney stones.

Hello.
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

You can try the following alternatives for "ranitidine".
1.PPI(Proton pump inhibitors) like "omeprazole" or newer congeners like "rabeprazole" can be used. It has to be taken as a sin gle daily dose preferably in empty stomach early in the morning.
2.You can also try "sucralfate syrup" which is available as over the counter, but continued use is not recommended.
3.Antacids which neutraliz the acid in the stomach can also be tried. You can go for antacid like gelusil or milk of magnesia. Never use more than three months continuously.
You can also try the following preventive measures to control the symptoms of heartburns.
1.Avoid spicy food and try to reduce the intake of coffee and tea,
2.Quit smoking and have a check on your alcohol consumption.
3.Avoid unwanted stress as it increase acid production and cause symptoms. Practice relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation.
4.Have smaller meals at frequent intervals and keep your self hydrated all the time.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
